Normally the male and female Sikh children are expected to get Amrit initiation when they are old enough to understand the obligations of their faith.
It is believed that new life starts after Amrit ceremony. The ceremony is traced since the times of Guru Nanak Dev but Khande Di Pahul ceremony was started by Guru Gobind Singh Ji on March 29, 1699 at the time of the creation of Khalsa at Sri Kesgarh, Anandpur Sahib in Punjab.
